Welcome to CUHS Nursing and Wellness

Role of the School Nurse

A Registered Nurse (RN) is assigned to this school and is the first point of contact for your health questions and concerns. School nurses are the primary health care providers within the educational environment promoting optimum health status, physical, mental and emotional health so that all students may achieve their fullest potential as a learner and a person.
 

School District Nurse provides:

  • Assess health needs
  • Teach and promote health practices
  • Provide health education, primary health care,        emergency care, crisis management, and referrals.
  • Provide communicable disease control
  • Perform mandated health screenings
  • Follow up for vision and hearing referrals (obtain glasses for students in need)
  • Train unlicensed staff to provide health care
  • Manage students with chronic conditions
  • Oversees distribution of medications
  • Works with students and their families to promote good health and school attendance
